The 2014 Chevrolet Impala marks the beginning of the 10th generation of cars in the long running line of cars to carry the Impala name. Previously, the Impala hasn’t exactly been the top competitor in its class. Mostly known for its usage as a rental car and police interceptor, the new Impala comes across as a very striking change in more ways than one.
The first thing noticeable is the styling of the thing—to be honest, from a first look I don’t expect to see the Chevrolet bowtie on the front grille. The sharp, sleek lines, wide front grille and overall proportions certainly make this new Impala feel much more upmarket than it ever has previously been. With 18 inch wheels standard and even larger available, optional HID headlamps and LED daytime running lights, the Impala starts to appear more and more luxurious on the exterior. But of course, it takes more than some flashy features on the outside to make a more luxurious car.

The interior on the 2014 Impala continues this whole idea that Chevrolet has on suddenly making it a huge contender in the sedan market, a market that has been ruled by Japanese and other imported vehicles for a while now. Lots of soft touch materials and less cheap feeling hard plastic is something that is very welcome on this car. The build quality of the interior in general feels like a huge change. Seating is very comfortable for 5 adults, and standard full power seating and tilt/telescoping wheel means that the driver gets a much more comfortable driving position than before. Standard dual automatic climate control and eight inch touchscreen with Chevy’s Mylink system has a lot of features as far as customization and phone connectivity go, even with things like Bluetooth streaming and navigation if desired…

The older Impalas never were exactly what you would call full of gadgets, and as far as safety features go Chevrolet went all out. It can be equipped with active cruise control, blind spot sensors, parking sensors, a rear view camera, lane departure warning system, and even a collision alert system. Oh, and of course it comes equipped standard with 10 airbags. All this of course are on top of the five star overall front and side impact ratings.

The Impala is still powered by the front wheels, this time with a 4 cylinder engine as the base model with an optional V6. The 4 cylinder isn’t bad for a car of this size with having 195 horsepower, and of course it gets slightly better mileage, however it seems like it has to be pushed a little too much to get it to move. The V6 on the other hand is more suited to the car with 305 horsepower, with a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds it places it firmly around the neighborhood of it’s competitors. Handling is very much improved with this generation of Impala also, whereas there is distinctly much more steering feel than before. It’s not completely perfect, no, but it is definitely quite a big leap in the right direction for Chevrolet.

Have you try the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala yet? Which one is your favorite feature?
